Finance and Fundraising

Friends of Scouting (FOS)

What is Friends of Scouting? - Friends of Scouting is an annual District campaign to raise funds for the Utah National Parks Council. This campaign is normally run through your chartered organizations (wards), but there are business FOS campaigns as well. The Salt Creek District has a rich history of donating generously in order to bring the promise of Scouting to all boys.

What does FOS pay for? - FOS pays for services to units through the means of personnel, properties, and equipment on the Council level. These services help units with training, expertise, facilities, materials, activities, events, BSA camps, and other activities that support individual unit needs. Funds are also allocated to pay for outreach efforts into underprivileged and underrepresented communities around the Council.

Other Benefits of Donating to Friends of Scouting

  • Tax Deductible
  • Donations of $150 or more receive a plaque with a commemorative coin.
  • See More about what Friends of Scouting is and where the money goes.

Salt Creek Friends of Scouting Events - The Salt Creek District has for the past several years been able to raise its FOS Fair Share through two fantastic community events. These events not only help the district raise its necessary part of the council budget, but provide experiences and memories to families that will last a lifetime. If you are not from the Salt Creek District, don't miss out on either of these fun filled experiences!

  • Nephi City 4th of July Celebration - Bring the kids for a day of fun celebrating our nation's birthday! This event, hosted by the LDS Nephi Utah North Stake, features games, great food, and just plain old good fun! The fun lasts all day at the Nephi City park!
  • Ute Stampede Rodeo - The Ute Stampede is traditionally held the second week of July. The people of Juab County salute our friends and neighbors for helping us grow. And welcome you back for another first class Rodeo. The concessions at the Rodeo are hosted by the LDS Nephi Utah Stake.

Unit Fundraising

In order to fund yearly activities to support Scouting, units are responsible to raise their own funds. Sometimes, as in the case with the LDS Church, activity funds are supplemented as part of their organization's budget. Check with each of your COR's to see what your organization's policy is on fundraising. The district can provide assistance in helping units with ideas and give direction on how to manage a successful fundraising campaign.

Trail's End is an established partner with the Boy Scouts of America and it's supported by the LDS general YM's presidency. It is one of the most successful fundraisers for units nationwide. Some units fund their entire year's program activities with one Trail's End popcorn fundraising campaign.

In order to plan a unit fundraiser, please fill out and submit to Burt Harvey, the Unit Money-Earning Application Form.

District Budget

Salt Creek district operates on an approved district budget. The district budget is submitted to the Council on an annual basis. The budget process is handled by Boyd Howarth (see Contact Us). All district activities must operate on a budget and submit a budget prior to the event. District budgets are subsidiaries of the Utah National Parks Council budget.
